Proverbs 18:21

21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue,

And those who love it will eat its fruit.

What we say, either bring life to someone or bring death.

Such is the power of words –

o It can bring encouragement or discouragement

o It can hurt, harm or heal

o It can boast or humble a person.

Genesis 1:1-2

1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness [a]was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.

3 Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.

There was no life on earth; even though the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. But, when God spoke – Creation burst forth

Words has the power to create. God created the Universe by words.

In the world, stories tell us about magic; which mesmerizes us – starts of spells & enchanted words.

Words can bring death to marriage, friendship. Churches break apart because of words. You lose hope, because of words!

“You are good for nothing”

“You don’t know anything”

“I wish I never had a son/daughter like you”

“you are nothing like your brother/sister”

“I’m sick of you”

“You will never change”

“You will never change”

“Go to hell”

“I don’t care”

Words forms sentences and sentences create thoughts & ideas. They are tricky and we say we never meant them at all.

Godly words can revive, heal & change lives.

Jesus transformed the lives of people around him. He created when he could destroy. He uplifted when he could crush. He brought life instead of death.

Faith filled words brings life, while faithless words can bring death

In the life of Moses – He spoke that he could not, While God said he could.

In the life of Abraham – He gave away his wife saying she was his sister, while God brought her back.

Luke 6:45

45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil [i]treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

What is present in your heart, will overflow from your mouth

If hatred is filled in your heart produces poisonous words.

A ungrateful heart produces grumbling and complaining.

A self-righteous heart produces judgmental words

What kind of heart do we have?

A loving heart produces kind, gracious words.

A faithful heart produces truthful tongue.

A peaceful heart brings reconciliation.

A trusting heart produces an encouraging word

Proverbs 12:18

There is one who speaks like the piercings of a sword,

But the tongue of the wise promotes health.

Words can stab & kill; words can bring healing

Proverbs 15:4

A [a]wholesome tongue is a tree of life,

But perverseness in it breaks the spirit.

Words such powerful that it creates behavior, habits. Whether it is from parents, siblings, teachers, peers or people in authority.

Words can crush a spirit or bring life to one

We have a choice to make! Its left up to us.

Fill your heart with the Word of God & when in trial, life pours out from our mouth. Let’s be the people who stop dumping their toxic words into people’s water supply.

Next time stop – think – speak. Let’s be peace makers & just.

Psalm 141:3

Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth;

Keep watch over the door of my lips.

1 John 5:19

19 We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one.

The people who lie are under the sway of the father of lies – Satan.

Proverbs 10:11

The mouth of the righteous is a well of life,

But violence covers the mouth of the wicked.

If you are a child of God, then our words should display the divine character of God.

Even at the last moment of Jesus’ life, he used words carefully.

Luke 23:34

Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”
